Mediation Process

In a mediation, Liz acts as a neutral third party to help the parties reach an agreement.  The mediation process with Liz Scheffee generally works as follows:

  1. After there is agreement to use Liz Scheffee as your mediator, a party or attorney will select an available date and time slot for your session **********@*********aw.com/?ismsaljsauthenabled=true” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>HERE.
  2. The parties or their attorneys, if any, will be sent a mediation intake form to complete via AdobeSign.
  3. Session details will be sent to all involved.
  4. The parties or their attorneys, if any, will receive an Agreement to Participate in Mediation, which must be signed and dated via AdobeSign at least 7 days prior to mediation.
  5. Once the agreement has been signed, an invoice will be emailed for each parties’ share of the initial 3-hour block.
Payment may be made electronically directly from the invoice or by mailing your check.
Any additional time and/or costs will be billed by a separate invoice once services are completed.
  6. Before the mediation, Liz will reach out to arrange a brief phone or Zoom conference to occur a week or two prior to mediation.
  7. Parties or their attorneys are expected to submit financial statements or summaries of their assets and debts, child support worksheets, current orders, and proposals to Liz at least 3 days prior to mediation.  What is needed will be discussed in the preliminary call with Liz.
  8. After mediation, parties will receive Points of Agreement or emailed summary at the end of each session.
  9. If Scheffee Law has been retained to draft any additional documents for the parties, initial drafts will be sent to the parties according to a timeframe set during mediation.

Reference/Arbitration Process

In reference or arbitration, Liz hears and makes decisions about your case in a mediation-like or formal hearing format as the parties agree.  Each case has different needs and timing.  Parties or their attorneys should contact Scheffee Law to discuss availability, fees and timing before appointing Liz as their referee or arbitrator.
